HAMMOND, La. – After playing a key role in the two-time reigning Southland Conference Tournament champion Southeastern Louisiana University softball team's strong start to the 2026 season, sophomore pitcher
Hallie Burns was named the Southland Conference Pitcher of the Week in an announcement from the league office Monday.
Burns earned her second SLC weekly honor of her Lady Lion career, as the Booneville, Mississippi native was recognized last March.
After narrow losses to No. 13 Clemson and South Alabama to open play at the NFCA Leadoff Classic, SLU ripped off four straight wins, capping the tournament with a 4-2 victory over No. 5 Oregon, marking the highest-ranked opponent Southeastern has ever defeated.
Burns finished the week with a 2-0 record and a 0.98 earned run average, holding opponents to a .122 batting average and striking out 19 in 14.1 innings of work. Burns earned the win versus the Ducks, allowing two hits and striking out five in 4.2 innings of shutout relief. She also claimed a win versus Boston College, struck out seven and allowed one hit versus South Alabama and fanned five versus No. 13 Clemson.
Burns and SLU will open the home portion of its schedule Wednesday, welcoming Louisiana Tech at 5 p.m. to North Oak Park. Prior to the game, which is sponsored by First Guaranty Bank and will air on ESPN+, Southeastern will unveil the outfield signage commemorating last season's SLC Tournament championship.
