SLU Opens SLC Play at UIW, Lamar

Southeastern (7-2) faces UIW Saturday at 1 p.m., Lamar Monday at 11 a.m.

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's tennis team will open Southland Conference play this weekend, heading to Texas for a pair of road matches.

Southeastern (7-2) will open its league slate Saturday with a 1 p.m. match at UIW (1-6). SLU then heads to Beaumont, Texas Monday for an 11 a.m. match at Lamar (6-3).

Freshmen Mariam Tetradze (7-0) and Adriana Tirado (7-1) share team-high honors in singles victories this spring for Southeastern. Paige Duncan (5-1), Mariam Makashvili (5-3), Panatchakorn Suanarsa (5-3) and Taisia Bolsova (4-0) also boast winning singles marks in dual match play.

In doubles, Tirado and Tetradze lead SLU with a 6-2 mark. The Lion tandems of Duncan and Bente Bierma (3-2), as well as Bolsova and Aitana Darder (5-4), have also been effective for Southeastern.

UIW will be looking to snap a six-match losing skid when SLU visits San Antonio Saturday. The Cardinals' lone win of the season came against St. Mary's in the spring opener.

Lamar is led by Martina Alcaino (4-1) and Luana Paiva (4-2) in singles play. Paiva and Arina Gudovskaya boast a team-best 4-1 doubles mark on court 1.

Southeastern defeated both teams, 5-2, last season in Hammond.

Following this week's action, SLU will play its next three matches at home, starting with a 1 p.m. match March 7 versus UTRGV at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.
