BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southeastern Louisiana University men's and women's track & field teams wrapped up the indoor season after the final day of the Southland Conference Indoor Championships Thursday.
After setting a school record of 23.86 in the preliminary round of the 200-meter dash,
Onyah Favour broke that record again on the final day of the championships. The junior placed first in the 200-meter event to claim gold with a 23.60 time. Favour's 23.60 performance is the best mark by any runner in the SLC and 20
th in the NCAA South-Central Region this season. That 23.60 time is also the 84
th-best time in the nation and the best by any non-Power 4 athlete in the South-Central Region.
Favour earned silver in the 400-meter dash with a time of 52.89, breaking her own school record from earlier this season. Her previous time from the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Invitational of 52.91 was the best in the conference this season until Northwestern State's Rushana Dwyer surpassed Favour's 52.89 time by 0.01 seconds in Thursday's 400-meter dash. Her 52.89 time is 40
th among all NCAA Division I student-athletes.
After qualifying for the 400-meter dash finals,
Daniel Atinaya recorded a time of 48.36 to take sixth place.
Jordyn Taylor finished sixth in the women's triple jump with a performance of 11.34 meters (37'2"). In the men's weight throw,
Gerrit Visser placed seventh with a toss of 17.40 meters (57'7"). As a team, the Lions placed 10th in the meet, while the Lady Lions were ninth.
With the indoor season coming to a close, the Lions and Lady Lions will prepare for the start of the outdoor season when Southeastern hosts The Andy Thiel Season Opener, Saturday, Mar. 14, at the Southeastern Track Complex.
