BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southeastern Louisiana University men's and women's track & field teams began the Southland Conference Indoor Championships at the Birmingham CrossPlex Wednesday.
In the preliminary round of the women's 200-meter dash,
Onyah Favour set a program record with a 23.86 time. The junior finished first, qualifying for the finals, set for 1:50 p.m. Thursday. Her time of 23.86 is also the top time among all Southland Conference sprinters this season, reclaiming the top spot after previously notching a 24.03 time.
Favour's success continued in the 400-meter dash preliminaries. Favour finished second, recording a time of 53.30 to qualify for the finals Thursday, at 1 p.m. Tied for 40
th in the nation, Favour's 52.91 time from the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Invitational remains the top time in the SLC this season.
Taking eighth place in the men's 400-meter dash,
Daniel Atinaya clocked a time of 48.30 to qualify for tomorrow's finals. Atinaya's 48.30 performance is a personal best, topping his previous best of 48.79. In field events,
Donald Butler and
Alden Dupree placed fourth and fifth in the high jump to reach marks of 2.08 meters (6'9") and 2.05 meters (6'8").
The final day of the SLC Indoor Championships will start at 10:40 a.m. with the women's shot put finals Thursday. Running events will begin at 11:40 a.m. with the women's 60-meter hurdles.
