Southeastern Earns Three Golds at LSU Twilight Friday

SLU will travel to Birmingham, Ala. for the Southland Conference Indoor Championships Wednesday

BATON ROUGE, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University men's and women's track & field teams took part in the LSU Twilight meet Friday at Carl Maddox Field House for the final meet before the Southland Conference Indoor Championships next week.
 
The Lions and Lady Lions totaled three golds in Friday's meet. Onyah Favour won the 200-meter dash with a time of 24:43, finishing nearly a second ahead of second place. Jaydan Jackson earned a gold for the women's field team with a first-place weight throw of 16.25 meters (53'3"). Josh-Ty Brown notched first with a shot-put throw of 16.01 meters (52'6").
 
The teams tabbed numerous personal-bests and season-bests at the meet. Donald Butler's third-place high jump of 2.09 meters (6'10") tied the fifth-best performance in the Southland Conference this season. In fifth place, Ian McAlpine recorded a personal-best time of 8.75 in the 60-meter hurdles. Matthew Berthelot also snagged a personal-best, finishing the 400-meter dash in 54.36 in fourth place.
 
Ava Pitarro (2:32.65) and Mya Parker (2:33.43) also earned personal-record times, ending the 800-meter run in eighth and ninth places, respectively. JoAnna Cornette's mile run of 5:49.01 got her seventh place and a personal-best time.
 
The men's and women's track & field teams will travel to Birmingham, Ala. to take part in the Southland Conference Indoor Championships, taking place from Wednesday, Feb. 25 through Thursday, Feb. 26. The two-day meet is set to begin at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.
