Lady Lions Drop Pair of Matches in Day One of Season Opener

Southeastern falls in tough battles against UAB and North Alabama on the road in day one of the Florida State Unconquered Invitational

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Southeastern Louisiana University beach volleyball team dropped two matches in its season opener Friday afternoon against UAB and North Alabama.

Southeastern (0-2) suffered a tough 3-2 loss versus UAB (1-2) to open the tournament. SLU battled in the match, but could not overcome the momentum of the Blazers down the stretch. Mia McKinney and Mia Sauers fought to claim a 21-19, 21-11 victory for the green and gold on opening day while Makayla Hicks and Cadie Kusy gained a 21-12, 14-21, 19-17 win over UAB.

The Lady Lions returned to the sand, falling 5-0 against North Alabama (2-1) to close out day one of the Florida State Unconquered Invitational. Southeastern worked to match the intensity of the North Alabama Lions, but could not prevail against their early momentum. Gabriela Hrubanova and Maggie Paive battled on court one in an effort to try and avoid the sweep, but in the end fell by two points in the final set.

SLU will seek to regroup and return to the sand Saturday against No. 18 Georgia State at 9 a.m. before facing CSU Bakersfield at 12:45 p.m. The green and gold will close out day two of the Florida State Unconquered Invitational against No.8 Florida State at 4:30 p.m.
