SLU Track & Field Kicks Off 2026 Indoor Season Friday

Southeastern's Alden Dupree posted the 14th-best performance in the NCAA at the season-opening meet

BATON ROUGE, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University men's and women's track & field teams started their 2026 season in the Carl Maddox Fieldhouse in the LSU Purple Tiger meet Friday.
 
Southeastern had four medalists in Friday's meet, starting with Onyah Favour in the 60-meter dash. The junior posted a school record mark in the 60-meter event with a 7.44 time, earning bronze in the finals.
 
On the men's side, Alden Dupree claimed bronze in the high jump with a personal-best 2.13-meter (6'11") performance for third in the event. Dupree's 2.13 meters is currently tied for 14th among all NCAA student-athletes. Donald Butler was right behind Dupree, taking fourth with a jump of 2.08 meters (6'10').
 
Josh-Ty Brown won gold in the shot put, claiming a first-place finish for SLU. The Kingston, Jamaica native reached a distance of 16.36 meters (53'8"). Porter Gibson also medaled in the shot put, earning bronze with a third-place distance of 15.78 meters (51'9").
 
Micah Miller and Bryson Thomas recorded personal-bests in the men's weight throw. Miller placed fourth with a 15.75-meter (51'8") toss while Thomas notched ninth with an 11.85-meter (38'10") throw.
 
On the women's side, Jaydan Jackson recorded a career-best weight throw of 15.89 meters (52'1") to take fourth place. In fifth place, Lyndsey Darensbourg's 15.84-meter (51'11") performance also gave her a personal best.
 
The SLU indoor track & field teams will go back to Baton Rouge, next Friday, Jan. 23rd, at 9 a.m. to compete in the LSU Battle of the Bengal.
