HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University men's and women's track & field teams are set to begin the 2026 indoor season Friday, when the programs travel to the LSU Purple Tiger meet at the Carl Maddox Fieldhouse in Baton Rouge, La.
Friday's field events are set to start at 9 a.m. with the women's weight throw. Track events will begin at 12 p.m.
SLU is returning 37 student-athletes from the 2025 squads, including NCAA Second Team All-American
Onyah Favour. The junior from Asaba, Nigeria put together a spectacular season in 2025, including a trip to the NCAA Division I Outdoor National Championships in Eugene, Ore, placing 16
th in the 400-meter dash. Favour owns the all-time record for the women's outdoor 400-meter dash at SLU with a 51.93 time at the NCAA Outdoor East First Round.
Ava Pitarro will also be returning from the 2025 team. The junior from Walker, La. set a school record in 2025, breaking the outdoor 3,000-meter run record at the LSU Alumni Gold meet, turning in a time of 10:25.91.
On the men's side,
Gerrit Visser will compete on Friday, returning after putting up solid performances during the 2025 campaign. Visser received a silver medal at the SLC Outdoor Championships, placing second in the javelin throw with a toss of 57.21 meters.
Josh-Ty Brown and
Porter Gibson will also travel with the team Friday, having posted good marks in the shot put during the 2025 season, both reaching the finals at the SLC Outdoor Championships.
Southeastern will return to Baton Rouge next week, when the teams compete in the LSU Battle of the Bengal, Friday, Jan. 23
rd, at 9 a.m.
