HAMMOND, La. – The two-time reigning Southland Conference Tournament champion Southeastern Louisiana University softball team will compete in the season-opening NFCA Division I Leadoff Classic presented by MaxBP Feb. 5-8 at the Eddie C. Moore Sports Complex in Clearwater, Fla.
The NFCA officially announced the tournament schedule Thursday. The Lady Lions will open the tournament versus a team that advanced to the Super Regionals last season before closing out their six-game tourney slate versus a 2025 Women's College World Series participant.
Southeastern, which finished 50-16 a season ago and advanced to the final of the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional, will open the season Feb. 5 at 6 p.m. (Central) versus Clemson. The Tigers hosted and won a regional last spring, before dropping a Super Regional at eventual national champion Texas.
The matchup with Clemson will be the first meeting between the two schools since the 2024 NCAA Tuscaloosa Regional, which saw SLU defeat the Tigers twice.
The Lady Lions will then move on to face Tennessee State at 3 p.m. and Longwood at 6 p.m. Feb. 6. Feb. 7 will see Southeastern take on Rutgers at 2 p.m. and Boston College at 5 p.m.
SLU's Feb. 8 contest at 9 a.m. will feature two of the seven Division I teams to win 50 or more games in 2025. Oregon, which finished 54-10 overall on the way to a WCWS appearance, will be the Lady Lions' final opponent of a challenging opening weekend.
Southeastern will open its eight-game preseason fall exhibition schedule versus Pensacola State Sept. 26 at 4:30 p.m. LSU Eunice (Oct. 1, 5 p.m.), Northwest Mississippi CC (Oct. 5, Noon), Coastal Alabama CC (Oct. 8, 5 p.m.), Northwest Florida State (Oct. 15, 5 p.m.), LSU Alexandria (Oct. 17, 5 p.m.), Copiah-Lincoln CC (Oct. 22, 5 p.m.) and Pearl River CC (Oct. 24, 5 p.m.) will also visit for 10-inning exhibitions at North Oak Park this fall.
