SLU Finishes 2025 as Division I Leader in Steals and Triples

Southeastern tops nation in steals for ninth time in 10 years, paces DI with school-record 33 triples

HAMMOND, La. – The two-time reigning Southland Conference Tournament champion Southeastern Louisiana University softball program finished its historic 2025 season as the national leader in both stolen bases and triples.

In its 10 years under two-time Louisiana Coach of the Year Rick Fremin, this is the ninth time Southeastern has led the nation in either total stolen bases or stolen bases per game. SLU led Division I with 196 steals and finished second nationally with 2.97 steals per game. The Lady Lions were tops in the country in both total stolen bases and stolen bases per game in 2016, 2018, 2019 and 2022.

A total of eight Lady Lions finished with double-digit stolen base totals this spring. Chloe Magee led the Southland with a team-high 35 steals, followed by teammates Shelby Morris (31), Shenita Tucker (25), Brilee Broussard (23), Kailey Dixon (19), Maria Detillier (17), Colleen Kulivan (14) and Brilee Ford (10). Seven of SLU's double-digit steal producers will return in 2026.

Southeastern also topped Division I with 33 triples and 0.50 triples per game. Detillier and Kulivan led the Lady Lions with six triples apiece, while Cydnee Schneider added five. All told, nine different SLU players had multiple triples in 2025.

SLU also finished tied for sixth nationally with 50 wins with only national champion Texas and WCWS participants UCLA, Texas Tech, Oregon and Oklahoma finishing with more wins than the Lady Lions. One of just four Southland Conference teams to finish with 50 or more wins in a season, Southeastern is one of eight Division I teams to record 40 or more wins in each of the past four seasons.

SLU also finished in the top 20 in Division I in earned run average (2.41, 8th), hits (540, 12th), shutouts (17, 1st), sacrifice bunts (63, 4th) and winning percentage (.756, 9th). Southeastern's totals for wins, triples, hits and shutouts were all single-season school records, while the Lady Lions also set new program season standards for games played (66), at-bats (1,670), runs (394), RBI (336), putouts (1,282) and innings pitched (427.1).

The Lady Lions will officially open their 2026 campaign at the NFCA Leadoff Classic, scheduled for Feb. 5-8 in Clearwater, Florida. SLU's eight-game fall exhibition slate opens with a 10-inning scrimmage versus Pensacola State Sept. 26 at 4:30 p.m. at North Oak Park.
