Fremin, LaRue Claim Individual State Honors; SLU Places Six on All-Louisiana Teams

Fremin (Coach of the Year), LaRue (Pitcher of the Year), Magee, Ford, Detillier, Schneider and Tucker represent Southeastern among state's best

HAMMOND, La. – Led by Coach of the Year Rick Fremin and Pitcher of the Year Macie LaRue, the two-time reigning Southland Conference Tournament champion Southeastern Louisiana University softball team placed six student-athletes on the 2025 Louisiana Sports Writers Association All-Louisiana College Softball Teams released by the LSWA Tuesday.

LaRue was joined on the first team by a pair of teammates in sophomore shortstop Chloe Magee and sophomore designated player Brilee Ford. Junior third baseman Maria Detillier represented SLU on the second team for the third consecutive season, while junior catcher Cydnee Schneider and senior outfielder Shenita Tucker were honorable mention selections.

Fremin was named Louisiana Coach of the Year for the second straight season after leading Southeastern to a 50-16 record. The Lady Lions took the inaugural best-of-three SLC Championship Series at McNeese to earn their second straight NCAA Tournament berth. Slotted as the fourth seed in the Baton Rouge Regional, SLU twice beat host and No. 10 national seed LSU to advance to the regional final.

Under Fremin's direction, Southeastern was just the fourth Southland Conference team to reach the 50-win mark in a season, joining Nicholls in 1994 (52-17) and 1995 (56-9), as well as former league member Texas State in 2001 (54-12). On the way to the win total, SLU set new single-season school records for runs, hits, triples, RBI, walks and shutouts, while also leading Division I in stolen bases and triples.

One of just seven Division I teams to reach 50 victories this spring, Southeastern is one of eight DI teams to win 40 or more games each of the past four seasons. Fremin, who was recognized for heading the NFCA/AETA Gulf Region Coaching Staff of the Year earlier this month, recently completed his 10th season in Hammond. The Belle Chasse, Louisiana native has led the Lady Lions to a 348-197 record during his tenure. 2025 marked the fourth straight year SLU has set a new single-season school record for victories under Fremin's direction.

LaRue added to her postseason trophy case by becoming the first pitcher in program history to be named Louisiana Pitcher of the Year. She previously was named third team NFCA All-Gulf Region, first team All-Southland Conference, SLC Newcomer of the Year, Southland All-Tournament and Southland All-Academic.

The Lovelady, Texas native finished 19-3 with a 2.29 earned run average, striking out 128 and holding opponents to a .246 batting average in 149.2 innings pitched. The Southland Conference leader in wins, she ranked among the league leaders in ERA (2nd), opposing batting average (4th), innings pitched (3rd) and strikeouts (2nd).

Magee is the first SLU shortstop to be named first team All-Louisiana and added to her own growing list of postseason accolades. The Southland Conference Tournament MVP was previously named first team All-SLC, SLC All-Tournament and Southland All-Academic.

After earning honorable mention All-Louisiana recognition in 2024, the Watson, Louisiana native took her game to a higher level this spring, hitting .358 with 54 runs scored, 39 RBI, 18 sacrifice bunts and 35 stolen bases. Magee led the Southland and ranked in the top 20 in Division I in sacrifice hits and stolen bases. She also was among the league leaders in runs (2nd), hits (6th) and RBI (8th).

Ford rounded out SLU's first team honorees after establishing her reliability in the clutch during the postseason. The Albany, Louisiana native earned SLC All-Tournament honors and etched her name in the Southeastern history books with a game-winning single in the Lady Lions' 6-5 win at McNeese in the deciding game of the SLC Championship series.

Ford was a steady presence in the middle of the lineup in her first season after transferring from McNeese, batting .290 with 11 doubles and 36 RBI – good for ninth in the SLC.

Detillier's third straight second team All-Louisiana nod also added to an impressive postseason haul. The Southland Conference Student-Athlete of the Year was previously named first team All-Southland, SLC All-Tournament and first team Southland All-Academic.

The Gramercy, Louisiana native hit .365 with 43 runs, 69 hits, 15 doubles, six triples, four home runs, 55 RBI and 17 stolen bases. She ranked among the SLC leaders in slugging percentage (.571, 7th), OPS (1.002, 9th), runs (8th), hits (3rd), RBI (2nd), doubles (6th), triples (2nd), sacrifice flies (8th) and stolen bases (9th).

Schneider was named one of the state's top catchers after an impressive debut in Hammond. The Elkhorn, Nebraska native added the all-state nod to her previous SLC All-Tournament Team selection.

Schneider batted .324 with 59 hits, 15 doubles, five triples, three home runs and 41 RBI this spring. She ranked among the SLC leaders in RBI (3rd), doubles (6th), triples (4th) and HBP (6, 6th).

Tucker was the final SLU All-Louisiana representative after a dynamic season in her first year in the green and gold after transferring from Lamar. The Richmond, Texas native was named first team All-Southland Conference last month.

Tucker led SLU with a .394 batting average and 30 walks to go with 38 runs, 61 hits, 24 RBI and 25 stolen bases in 2025. She ranked in the SLC Top 10 in batting average (5th), on-base percentage (.489, 5th), walks (3rd) and stolen bases (3rd). In conference games, she posted a league-best .569 batting average.

Southeastern and LSU swept the state's individual honors, as Tiger freshman first baseman Tori Edwards was named Hitter and Freshman of the Year, while LSU junior outfielder Jalia Lassiter was tabbed the state's Newcomer of the Year.

LSU-Alexandria led the state with seven All-Louisiana selections, followed by SLU and LSU with six apiece. The All-Louisiana teams were voted on by the state's media relations contacts and select media members.

All six Southeastern All-Louisiana selections will return next season. The Lady Lions will officially open their 2026 campaign at the NFCA Leadoff Classic, scheduled for Feb. 5-8 in Clearwater, Florida. SLU's eight-game fall exhibition slate opens with a 10-inning scrimmage versus Pensacola State Sept. 26 at 4:30 p.m. at North Oak Park.
