Sophomore Thrower Battles with Nation's Best On Weather-Impacted Regional Opening Day

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Southeastern Louisiana University track & field member Gabriel Lim got his final throws of the season in while Donroy Brown's event got rained out on day one of the 2025 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field National Championship East First Round Wednesday at the Visit Jax Track at Hodges Stadium on the campus of the University of North Florida.

Competing in the second group of four in the javelin throw, Lim started with his first throw going 52.20 meters (171'3"), starting him in 22nd place. His second throw helped move him up the leaderboard more, traveling 58.74 meters (192'8"), but he still had more work to do as that got him up to 17th place. However, it was not to be Lim's day as he faulted on his third throw, locking him outside of the top-12 needed to qualify for the javelin throw final at the National Championship meet. After all four flights were completed, he would sit in 42nd place.

Brown was set to compete in the shot put competition, but thunderstorms rolled into the area, forcing a halt to all action and causing the postponement of both the shot put and pole vault, both of which are tentatively set for Thursday prior to the start of the day's previously set schedule.

The 2025 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field National Championship East First Round continues on Thursday with the women's competitions getting underway. For the Lady Lions, Onyah Favour will run in the 400-meter dash at 7:25 p.m. EDT while Esther Nwanze will race in the 400-meter hurdles at 8:20 p.m. EDT. Both are looking to finish in the top three of their heat to earn an automatic spot in Saturday's national quarterfinal race. If they're outside the top-three in their heat, they can still advance on time as the top-six fastest times that didn't automatically qualify from their finishing position will move on as well.

All four days of the 2025 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field National Championship East First Round are being televised on ESPN+ with live results also available through Flash Results.
