Sr. thrower Donroy Brown celebrates a silver medal-winning throw in the shot put Friday at the SLC Outdoor Championships

HOUSTON – The Southeastern Louisiana University track & field team got a silver medal-winning performance from
Donroy Brown in the shot put as the Lions scored 15 points while SLU earned four more spots in track finals on day two of the 2025 Southland Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships Thursday at the Wendel D. Ley Track & Holloway Field on the campus of Rice University.
The day's first event, the men's shot put, helped move the Lions much closer to the top of the team leaderboard. Brown got it started as his first throw immediately vaulted him into a finalist position. His sixth, and final, throw of the competition proved to be his best, going 17.69 meters (58'0.5") to move him up into the silver medal position, where he stayed, earning the second place finish and eight points for the team.
While that was happening,
Josh-Ty Brown was adding to Southeastern's point total as well. His first throw went 16.26 meters (52'4.25"), a mark which held to earn him a spot in the final nine and three more throws. It was his fourth throw of the day which proved to be his best, going 16.86 meters (55'3.75") which placed him fourth and earning the Lions five points.
Porter Gibson became the third Lion to earn a spot in the last nine, and three extra throws, thanks to his first throw while went 16.08 meters (52'9.25"). It was his last throw of the Final which got him his best mark, and confirmed more points, by unleashing a throw of 16.32 meters (53'6.5"). That earned Gibson a seventh place finish and two more points for the SLU men. Between Gibson,

Josh-Ty Brown's performances, the Lions scored 15 total team points from the men's shot put competition.
The Lady Lions earned their first points of the competition on Friday, and they came from the hand of
Anna Ferrand in the javelin competition. Her second throw of the day ended up being her best mark of the competition as it went 42.14 meters (138'3"). That mark held for a fifth place finish after all six rounds were complete, earning the team four points.
On the track, four more Lions locked up spots in Saturday's championship races.
In the 110-meter hurdles,
Olu Ogunyemi crossed the line in 14.23 seconds, earning second place in his heat, a time which held up after the third, and final, heat was completed. That time ended up being the second-fastest through all three heats, making him the top qualifier on time for Saturday's Final.
Southeastern placed one finalist each in the men's and women's 400-meter dash. On the women's side,
Onyah Favour cruised to the Final by winning the fifth, and final, heat of the day with a time of 53.91 seconds, winning the heat by nearly two seconds and automatically qualifying for Saturday.
In the men's race,
Victory Achakpoekri also soared to a spot in Saturday's Championship race. In the fourth of five heats, he beat teammate
Javon-Taye Williams to the line in a time of 46.52 seconds which was the day's fastest time, earning him an automatic spot in the Final. Williams's time of 47.12 seconds was just 0.02 seconds shy of qualifying him on time.
Marvellous Asemota, who already earned a spot in the 200-meter dash Final from Thursday, picked up a second Championship Race berth by qualifying in the 100-meter dash as well on Friday. In the second of three heats, Asemota stopped the clock in 11.93 seconds which earned her a third place finish in her heat and was the seventh-fastest time when all three heats were completed, earning her a place in the Final on time by just 0.02 seconds.
After two days of competition, the Lions sit in fourth place in the team competition with 33 points. The Lady Lions have four points and are in 10
th place in the team standings following Friday's action.
Day three of the 2025 Southland Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships starts at 3 p.m. on Saturday with the women's discus throw, women's triple jump, and men's high jump. Action on the track starts at 5 p.m. with the women's 4x100-meter relay, followed by the men's 4x100-meter relays.
The final day of the 2025 Southland Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships, taking place at the Wendel D. Ley Track & Holloway Field on the campus of Rice University will be televised on ESPN+ with live results available through the SLC and Athletic Live.
