HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University golf, tennis and beach volleyball teams will compete in their respective Southland Conference Championships, the league-leading baseball and softball teams look to continue their winning ways and the track and field teams continue the outdoor season.
 
The Southeastern golf team will compete in the SLC Championships, which run Monday through Wednesday at Comanche Trace in Kerrville, Texas.
 
The SLU tennis team (13-8) opens the conference tournament with a 2 p.m. first round match versus New Orleans Tuesday in Thibodaux, Louisiana. If the Lions get past UNO, they will face Stephen F. Austin Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the quarterfinals. The semifinals are set for Thursday at 6 p.m. with first serve for Friday's championship match scheduled for 5 p.m.
 
The Beach Lion volleyball team (12-18) will compete in the SLC Championships this week in New Orleans. SLU opens the tournament with a 10 a.m. match versus San Jose State Wednesday. The tournament runs through Friday. The winners of the golf, tennis and beach volleyball championships will receive the league's automatic bids to the NCAA Tournament.
 
The Southeastern baseball team (31-9, 16-5 SLC) will hit the road for four games this week, starting with a 6 p.m. nonconference contest at No. 23 Southern Miss Wednesday. SLU then heads to HCU for a key Southland series with the Huskies. The series opens with a 6:30 p.m. contest Friday, continues Saturday at 2 p.m. and concludes with a 2 p.m. contest Sunday.
 
The SLU softball team (40-11, 20-4 SLC) carries an eight-game win streak into its final week of the regular season. The Lady Lions close out their nonconference slate Tuesday with a 4 p.m. doubleheader versus Alcorn State. Tuesday is All Abilities Night at North Oak Park in conjunction with the twin bill.
 
Southeastern then welcomes Nicholls to town for Alumni Weekend. The series with the Colonels opens with a 4 p.m. doubleheader Friday and concludes Saturday at noon.
 
SLU will need one win in the three-game set to secure home-field advantage for one of the two bracket play rounds of the Southland Conference Tournament. For the first time, the top two seeds in the SLC standings will host four-team, double-elimination brackets. The No. 1 seed will host the 4,5 and 8 seeds, while the second seed will host seeds 3,6 and 7, May 1-4. The winners of the two brackets will advance to the championship series, hosted by the highest remaining seed, May 8-10.
 
The Lion and Lady Lion track and field teams continue the outdoor season this week. SLU will be in Baton Rouge Saturday to compete in the LSU Alumni Gold.
