Southeastern Opens Busy Stretch Thursday Versus New Orleans

First 100 SLU students at Thursday's match between SLU and Privateers receives free Raising Cane's

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's tennis team will open a stretch of four matches in five days Thursday, when it hosts Southland Conference foe New Orleans at 5 p.m. at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.

The match between Southeastern (10-5, 2-3 SLC) and the Privateers (5-8, 1-4 SLC) will kick off a busy stretch for the Lions. The first 100 SLU students in attendance will receive free food from Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers courtesy of Southeastern Athletics Marketing and Promotions.

SLU will then head to Jackson, Mississippi Sunday for an 11 a.m. doubleheader versus Mississippi Valley State (0-9). Southeastern closes its home schedule Monday with a 6 p.m. contest versus league foe Nicholls (3-10, 0-5 SLC).

SLU is led in singles play by the trio of Aitana Darder (9-3, 3-2 SLC), Taisia Bolsova (9-5, 3-2 SLC) and Panatchakorn Suanarsa (9-5, 2-3 SLC). Darder and Leana Gomez (8-4, 2-1 SLC) boast the Lions' best doubles record, while Suanarsa and Bente Bierma are 7-7 overall and 1-3 in league action on court 1.

New Orleans picked up its first Southland win of the spring last Thursday with a 4-3 home win over Nicholls. Southeastern will be looking to avenge a 5-2 loss last April to the Privateers.

Mississippi Valley State will be looking for its first wins of the spring when the two teams meet Sunday. Sunday's matches will take place on the Jackson State campus.

Southeastern closes its 2024-25 home schedule Monday night versus a Nicholls team in search of its first conference win of the season. The Lions and Colonels split last spring with SLU winning in the regular season and Nicholls getting past Southeastern in the first round of the SLC Tournament.

Following the upcoming action, the Lions will then head to Stephen F. Austin for a noon SLC match on April 12 in Nacogdoches, Texas.
