NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University beach volleyball team closed out day one of the NOLA Classic 0-2 against San Jose State and Tulane Friday afternoon at the White Sands Volleyball Courts.
Southeastern (10-18, 3-5 SLC) opened serve against San Jose State (12-16, 6-2 SLC), suffering a tough 3-2 loss in its second meeting this season. Ysabella Lockwood and Kennedi Steele battled on court four to defeat the Spartans with a 21-10, 21-12 win while Aspen Steele and Anne Brauckmiller extended their three-match winning streak with a 21-16, 19-21, 15-12 victory. The Lady Lions' momentum on courts three and four helped to avoid the shutout on the road.
SLU returned to the sand and fell 4-1 in a rematch against Tulane (23-9, 3-2) to finish day one of the tournament. Southeastern worked to fuel an early run on courts three and four, forcing three sets, but the Green Wave fought to take control the rest of the match to secure the victory.
The Lady Lions will return to sand in the NOLA Classic Saturday morning at 11 a.m. against conference rival McNeese to open the day. SLU will end the weekend against Tarleton State at 1:30 p.m. All matches will be played at the White Sands Volleyball Courts.
