BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southeastern Louisiana University beach volleyball team finished 1-1 day two of the Blazer Beach Bash with a split decision against Austin Peay and UAB Saturday afternoon at the UAB Beach Volleyball Courts.
SLU (10-16, 3-5 SLC) began the final day of the tournament with a 4-1 victory over Austin Peay (3-19) to extend its two-match winning streak on the road. Southeastern came out to a solid start in the sand as courts four and five dominated with two-set wins. The Lady Lions fell on court three, but quickly regained their momentum as Alexis Logarbo/Mia McKinney and Makayla Hicks/Mia Sauers claimed the final two victories to seal the deal.
Southeastern returned to the sand and fell 4-1 in a rematch against UAB (18-10) to close out the weekend. Aspen Steele and Anne Bruackmiller dominated on court five to help SLU secure its lone win in the match with a 21-16, 21-17 victory. The Blazers turned up their intensity as they claimed the next four wins on each court to gain the victory.
The Lady Lions will return to sand in the NOLA Classic for its final tournament of the regular season in New Orleans Friday, April 18-19. Southeastern will open the tournament against the host Tulane in a rematch at 4 p.m.
