Lady Lions Close Day One with Split Decision in Thibodaux

Southeastern posted its second victory against McNeese this season, before falling 4-1 to HCU in the SLC Mid-Year Invitational

THIBODAUX, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University beach volleyball team finished 1-1 with a split decision on day one of the Southland Conference Mid-Year Invitational Friday afternoon in Thibodaux, La.

SLU (5-11, 3-2 SLC) opened serve Friday morning against conference rival McNeese (8-8, 1-3 SLC) with a 4-1 victory in the first match of the three-day tournament. Southeastern gained its second win over the Cowgirls this season with three victories claimed in two sets. Alexis Logarbo/Mia McKinney posted a 21-19, 21-13 victory over McNeese on court one, while Kennedi Steele/Carley Petty continued to fuel SLU's momentum with a 21-17, 21-17 win. Aspen Steele and Anne Brauckmiller also provided a spark of momentum for Southeastern on the road with a dominant 21-9, 21-11 victory.

The Lady Lions returned to the sand to close out the day with a 4-1 loss to Houston Christian (7-11, 2-2 SLC). The Huskies took control of the match early to secure a quick advantage over Southeastern. Makayla Hicks and Mia Sauers battled on court three to earn a 21-14, 21-15 victory over HCU to aid SLU in avoiding the shutout.

Southeastern will return to the sand for day two of the SLC Mid-Year Invitational with a match against Boise State at 10 a.m. The Lady Lions will move on to face Stephen F. Austin at 1 p.m. to close the day.
