SLU Heads to NSU for Cypress Trophy Series

Southeastern, Lady Demons meet Friday at 4 p.m. (DH), Saturday at noon on ESPN+

HAMMOND, La. – The reigning Southland Conference Tournament champion Southeastern Louisiana University softball team will return to Southland Conference play this week with a three-game league series at Northwestern State.

The series between the Lady Lions (23-8, 5-1 SLC) and the host Lady Demons (3-24, 0-6 SLC) opens with a 4 p.m. doubleheader Friday and concludes Saturday at noon. The series will be televised on ESPN+.

Since 2019, the winner of the SLU-NSU softball series receives the Cypress Trophy. Northwestern State took home the trophy in 2019 and 2021, while Southeastern has claimed the series each of the past three seasons.

The Lady Lions enter the series with an SLC-best .326 batting average. Maria Detillier leads the team with a .425 batting average, followed by Chloe Magee (.398), Kailey Dixon (.362) and Shelby Morris (.338). Detillier also paces Southeastern with 37 hits, 10 doubles and 33 RBI, while Magee has scored a team-high 26 runs.

Detillier and Colleen Kulivan share the conference lead with four triples apiece, as Southeastern leads Division I with 22 triples. SLU also leads the nation with 108 stolen bases. Magee's 20 steals top the SLC, while Morris (14), Broussard (13), Shenita Tucker (12) and Kailey Dixon (10) also have swiped double-digit bases.

The Southeastern pitching staff leads the Southland and ranks among the Division I leaders with a 1.96 earned run average (12th) and 10 shutouts (7th). Macie LaRue (8-0, 1.77 ERA), Hallie Burns (8-3, 1.55 ERA) and Britney Lewinski (3-4, 3.11 ERA, 2 saves) are the top arms for SLU.

Northwestern State comes into the series with a .209 team batting average. Peyton Peck leads NSU with a .262 batting average, while Riley Schwisow has two home runs. Brooklynn Stohler (2-15, 5.73 ERA) and Kaymie Chandler (0-4, 7.39 ERA) have shared the majority of the innings in the circle for NSU.

Following this weekend's series, SLU will return home to host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi for a three-game series at North Oak Park. The series with the Islanders opens up with a 4 p.m. doubleheader Friday and features fireworks following the games. Military personnel will receive free admission by presenting a valid military ID to Saturday's noon series finale. The series will be televised on ESPN+ and can be heard online at LionUpRadio.org.
