HAMMOND, La. – After helping the Southeastern Louisiana University women's tennis team even its conference record, Lion sophomore
Taisia Bolsova was named the Southland Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week in an announcement from the league office Tuesday.
Bolsova is the second SLU player to earn weekly honors this spring. Freshman teammate
Aitana Darder earned SLC Player of the Week accolades Feb. 25.
Bolsova won in both singles and doubles play in Wednesday's 5-2 victory over UIW. On the No. 6 singles court, she earned a 6-3, 6-4 victory over McKenzy Byfield. In doubles play, she and
Claudia Di Leonardo were too much for Byfield and Luciana Perez in a 6-3 win on court 3.
Bolsova (8-4, 3-1 SLC) is currently tied with Darder and
Panatchakorn Suanarsa for the team lead in singles victories, while carrying a team-best singles record in conference play. She and Di Leonardo (2-1, 2-1 SLC) have won two straight since being paired as a team earlier this month.
Southeastern (9-3, 2-2 SLC) continues its four-match home stand Tuesday, hosting Loyola of New Orleans at 5 p.m. at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.
