YOUNGSVILLE, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University beach volleyball team ended with a 1-2 record Friday afternoon to close out opening day of the the third annual Sugar Beach Bash.
Southeastern (4-9, 2-1 SLC) opened serve Friday morning with a 3-2 loss to Spring Hill (8-6) in the first match of the two-day tournament. The Lady Lions battled to turn the tide of momentum late in the match, but the Badgers sealed the deal to extend their two-match winning streak. Courts one and three for SLU each claimed two-set victories over Spring Hill to avoid the sweep.
The Lady Lions returned to the sand with a different mindset as they secured a 4-1 victory over Central Arkansas (8-7). SLU dominated against the Sugar Bears to regain its position in the winning category. Southeastern's top pair, Alexis Logarbo and Mia McKinney, earned their second victory of the day with a 21-17, 21-15 win over Central Arkansas. Courts one and three claimed two-set victories while courts four and five battled in three-sets to attain the win.
SLU finished the day with a 4-1 loss to UT Martin (6-5) in its second match against the Skyhawks this season. UT Martin held all the momentum throughout the match, but reigning SLC pair of the week Aspen Steele and Anne Brauckmiller fought to secure a 21-18, 21-17 victory at court five to help Southeastern avoid the shutout. The pair currently stands 4-4 so far this season.
The Lady Lions will return to the sand to face ULM Saturday afternoon to close out the Sugar Beach Bash at the Youngsville Sports Complex in Youngsville, La.
