Gr. Thrower Terrell Webb looks to become SLU's second-ever weight throw national champion on Friday
HAMMOND, La. – Terrell Webb looks to etch his name into history as a national champion on Friday while the rest of the Southeastern Louisiana University track & field teams begin their outdoor season at home Saturday in the Sean Brady Season Opener at the Southeastern Track Complex.
Webb will make his throws in the weight throw competition at the NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field National Championships at 6:05 p.m. EDT/5:05 p.m. CDT Friday from Virginia Beach, Va. at the Virginia Beach Sports Center. Webb's attempt at becoming a national champion will be televised on ESPN+ with live results available through Direct Athletics and the NCAA.
Saturday's Sean Brady Season Opener kicks off at 9 a.m. from the Southeastern Track Complex with the discus competition on the field and the 5,000-meter run on the track. Live results of the Sean Brady Season Opener will be available through Crescent City Timing, MileSplit.com, and Southeastern.
Webb earned his spot in Friday's weight throw competition at the 2025 Division I Indoor Track & Field National Championships by having the seventh-longest distance in all of DI when he uncorked a throw of 23.62 meters (77'6"). That throw not only won him his second-straight Southland Conference Championship in the discipline, but also broke the SLC Indoor Championships meet record which was previously held by SLU Hall of Famer and 2016 NCAA weight throw national champion Alex Young since 2016.
The nation's longest weight throw this year, heading into the NCAA Indoor National Championships, is 25.06 meters (82'2.75").
On Saturday, the SLU track and field teams begin their outdoor season on its home track and field in Hammond, America. Several NCAA Outdoor First Round qualifiers from a season ago are back, trying to improve enough to take the next step and advance to the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field National Championships this season.
Upon his return from Indoor Nationals, Webb will take up his spot in the hammer throw competition where he won the SLC Championship and qualified for the First Round a year ago.
Gabriel Lim returns this season after a First Round appearance in the javelin throw as a freshman in 2024. He'll be looking to better his marks to move up from a 45
th place finish in the First Round.
Entering his senior season,
Donroy Brown will be leading the way in the shot put after earning a spot in the First Round a season ago.
On the women's side, both
Esther Nwanze and
Onyah Favour are back for another outdoor season where they'll be aiming for spots beyond the SLC Championships.
Nwanze was a First Round qualifier in the 400-meter hurdles in 2024, finishing 20
th in that discipline at the regional.
As a freshman, Favour earned a spot in the First Round in the 400-meter dash, finishing 28
th in her final run of the 2024 outdoor season.
After proving herself as a top sprinter during the indoor season, first year Lady Lion
Marvellous Asemota will also look to make her name on the outdoor scene as well.
After the opening weekend at home, Southeastern will make the short jaunt over to Baton Rouge for their second outdoor meet of the season next weekend, taking part in the Lurline Struppeck Invitational hosted by LSU.
