HAMMOND, La. – The reigning Southland Conference Tournament champion Southeastern Louisiana University softball team will hit the road for the first time in Southland Conference play, heading to HCU for a three-game league series.
After the opening weekend of league action, SLU (20-7, 3-0 SLC) and HCU (9-12, 3-0 SLC) are tied atop the conference standings. The series opens with a 4 p.m. doubleheader Friday and concludes Saturday at noon. Saturday's series finale will be televised on ESPN+.
The Lady Lions earned their fourth straight victory and ninth win in the past 10 games Tuesday versus North Dakota State.
Cydnee Schneider broke a 1-1 tie with a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning in a 3-1 SLU victory.
Southeastern enters the series with a .322 team batting average. Maria Detiller leads the team with a .395 batting average, followed by
Chloe Magee (.382),
Blair Walsh (.357) and
Shelby Morris (.349). Morris also leads the team with 22 runs scored, while Detillier paces the squad with 30 hits, eight doubles and 24 RBI.
SLU leads Division I with 21 triples, as Detillier and
Colleen Kulivan share team-high honors with three apiece. The Lady Lions are also second nationally with 94 stolen bases. Magee has stolen a team-high 18 bases, while Morris,
Shenita Tucker and
Brilee Broussard have 11 steals each.
Southeastern pitchers are in the top five nationally in earned run average (1.72, 4
th) and shutouts (10, 5
th). The trio of
Macie LaRue (7-0, 1.27 ERA),
Hallie Burns (6-2, 1.29 ERA) and
Britney Lewinski (3-4, 3.09 ERA, 1 save) have handled the majority of the work in the circle for the Lady Lions.
HCU is hitting .293 as a team behind the duo of AB Garcia (.557) and Haylie Savage (.406, 23 RBI). The Huskies' pitching staff enters the weekend with a 5.80 team ERA, as Leah Hammack (4-4, 4.38 ERA), Kynleigh Evans (2-4, 6.82 ERA) and Cara Pitman (3-1, 7.08 ERA, 1 save) have been the primary arms for HCU.
Following this weekend's action, SLU returns home to host ULM for a 5 p.m. nonconference contest next Wednesday at North Oak Park. The game will be televised on ESPN+ and can be heard online at
