Gr. thrower Terrell Webb earned SLC Athlete of the Week Honors following the LSU Purple Tiger meet to start the season
HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University track & field teams are back in action on Friday, taking part in the Vulcan Invitational, hosted by the University of Alabama-Birmingham, at the Birmingham Crossplex.
The day starts in the throwing cages at 9 a.m. while field events start at 10 a.m. and track events kicking off at noon. All events will take place in the Birmingham Crossplex and live results will be available through the host institution.
Both Southeastern teams will be looking for continued improvement after a total of 18 personal bests were set in the season opener at the LSU Purple Tiger last month.
Terrell Webb will be going for his second-straight win in the weight toss competition, where he'll also try to get back in position as a contender for a spot in the NCAA National Indoor Championships. He enters the Vulcan Invitational with the 45
th-best weight throw distance in the country at 20.5 meters (67'3.25").
Javon-Taye Williams is SLU's other gold medal winner from Baton Rouge. He'll look to repeat his performance on the track, especially his first place finish in the 600-meter dash where he also set a personal best with a time of 1:19.33.
Onyah Favour will look to lead the Lady Lions at UAB after her medal-winning performance at the LSU Purple Tiger, coming in third in the 600-meter dash with a personal best time of 1:38.45.
Following the Vulcan Invitational, the Lions have a week off before competing in the LSU Twilight on Feb. 21 in Baton Rouge in the final meet before the Southland Conference Indoor Championships.
