HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's tennis team will open Southland Conference play during a three-match swing through Texas.
 
The Lions (7-1) open league play with a 1 p.m. match Saturday at new conference member UTRGV (2-3). Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (10-1) will host SLU Monday at 11 a.m. and Southeastern will close the trip with a 10 a.m. nonconference match at Prairie View (0-16) Tuesday.
 
Southeastern enters the trip on a six-match winning streak. The Lions rallied past Southern Tuesday for a 4-3 victory, as Bente Bierma, Claudia Di Leonardo, Panatchakorn Suanarsa and Aitana Darder each picked up singles wins to lead SLU.
 
Darder, the reigning SLC Player of the Week, has won five straight matches to hold a team-best 6-1 singles mark this spring. Suanarsa (6-2) shares the team lead in victories and has won her last singles outings. Leana Gomez (5-2), Di Leonardo (5-3), Taisia Bolsova (5-3) and Kate Oborina (1-0) all have winning singles marks.
 
Darder and Gomez have teamed for three straight doubles victories to run their record to 5-3. Bierma and Suanarsa carry a team-best 6-2 record on the No. 1 doubles court.
 
Following the trek through the Lone Star State, SLU will return home to host conference foe UIW March 8 at 1 p.m. at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.
