HAMMOND, La. – After a strong debut for the reigning Southland Conference Tournament champion Southeastern Louisiana University softball team, SLU junior Macie LaRue was named the season's first Pitcher of the Week in an announcement from the league office Monday.
 
LaRue is in her first season with the Southeastern program after transferring from Bossier Parish Community College. The Lovelady, Texas native earned both of SLU's wins in the circle at the season-opening Tiger Classic, hosted by No. 10 LSU.
 
After throwing three innings of scoreless relief in Friday's 5-2 loss to Central Arkansas, LaRue closed out the tournament with a pair of complete-game efforts. She scattered three hits in a 10-1 mercy-rule win over defending American Athletic Conference champion Charlotte Saturday.
 
LaRue was even better Sunday, tossing a complete-game, two-hit shutout in a 5-0 win over UCA. For the week, she finished 2-0 with a 0.47 ERA and held opposing batters to a .173 batting average.
 
SLU will open its home schedule Wednesday, hosting Louisiana Tech at 5 p.m. at North Oak Park. The contest will be televised on ESPN+ and an online audio stream will be available at LionUpRadio.org. Prior to the game, Southeastern will unveil its 2024 Southland Conference Tournament championship and NCAA Regional appearance signage, while fans will also be able to receive postgame autographs from their favorite Lady Lions.
