BEAUMONT, Texas – Southeastern Louisiana University sophomore Aitana Darder won the "B" singles bracket and teamed with Taisia Bolsova to win the "A" doubles bracket to highlight an impressive effort by the SLU tennis team at this weekend's Joe Pyburn Invitational on the Lamar University campus.
 
Playing in a field that included Southland Conference foes Lamar, McNeese and Northwestern State, as well as LSU Alexandria and Louisiana Tech, the Lions had success in both doubles and singles play during the tournament.
 
Darder and Bolsova opened the tournament with a 6-4 win over Erica Hagi and Ana Hollweg of McNeese. In the semifinals, Darder and Bolsova topped the Lamar duo of Luana Paiva and Arina Gudovskaya. The finals saw the Southeastern pair outlast McNeese's Stella Viktorie Rundova and Alexa Martinez Mendoza, 6-4.
 
Darder opened the "B" singles bracket with 6-1, 6-4 win over Lamar's Asta Miettinen, before earning default wins in the semifinals and finals. Bolsova, Panatchakorn Suanarsa and Mariam Makashvili all earned two singles victories in their respective brackets with Suanarsa and Makashvili winning the consolation brackets. Adriana Tirado, Paige Duncan and Mariam Tetradze were all 1-1 in singles play for SLU.
 
The Lions will close out its fall schedule by hosting the George E. Fourmaux Invitational Nov. 7-9 at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.
