SLU Cheerleaders Win Third Consecutive National Title; Lionettes Bring Home Pair of Medals

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Southeastern Louisiana University spirit squads both medaled, with the SLU Cheerleaders claiming their third consecutive national championship, this weekend at the 2025 UCA and UDA College Cheerleading and Dance Team National Championships at the Walt Disney World Resort.

The gold medal marks the fourth time in five years that SLU Cheer has brought home the championship with their Game Day routine.

After finishing first in the semifinals of the UCA DI Game Day category with 96 points, Southeastern finished strong with 97.6 points in the finals round. That finals score tops last year's 97.1667-point effort by nearly half a point. SLU Cheer previously claimed national titles in 2021, 2023 and 2024.

SLU Cheer also brings home a bronze medal in Small Coed Division I. After posting a score of 88.9 to place third in the semifinals, Southeastern earned 90.5 points in the final round.

Southeastern's dance squad, the Lionettes, won silver in the UDA Division I Game Day category with a finals score of 89.3, improving upon their semifinal score of 88.55 to bypass both St. John's and Nebraska Omaha in the final round.

The Lionettes claimed bronze in the Division I Hip Hop category with an event score of 89.619 in the final round. SLU also placed 16th in the semifinals of Division I Jazz and did not advance to the finals in that competition.

Competing in the Girls '4' Group Stunt category were Halle Bouffard, Haley Martin, Camryn Cangiolosi and Ella Freeman who placed fifth with a score of 90.5 with their routine.

The university's athletic spirit groups have combined for a total of eight national championship golds in the past eight years, as the Lionettes dance team also won titles in the Division I Hip Hop category in both 2018 and 2021, and last year in the Division I Game Day category.
