JACKSON, Tenn. – Behind a strong collegiate debut from freshman Viggo Hed, the Southeastern Louisiana University men's golf team sits in fourth place after the opening round of the Grover Page Classic Monday at the Jackson Country Club.
 
Due to heavy rain in the area overnight, Monday's season opener was delayed and the 15-team field played 18 holes instead of the scheduled two rounds. The Lions finished nine-under par as a team and head into Tuesday's final round four strokes off the lead behind day one co-leaders Morehead State and Austin Peay.
 
In his first round as Lion, Hed carded a six-under par 66 and sits one shot behind Morehead State's Nolan Piazza for the day one lead. Hed, who carded six birdies and an eagle in round one, was one of three SLU starters to finish under par for the day.
 
Griffin Dorr sits in 18^th place after posting three birdies on the way to an opening-round 70 (-2). Landen East was steady on the day, notching two birdies and one bogey on a consistent round of 71 (-1) that featured 15 pars to finish day one in 26^th place.
 
Colby Sullivan (E, T40th) and Patrick Blaum (+4, T76th) rounded out the starting five for the Lions. Noah Bumgarner, who is representing SLU as an individual, matched Sullivan's first-round 72.
 
Southeastern will be paired with SIU Edwardsville and Southern Indiana for Tuesday's final round, which tees off at 8:45 a.m. Live scoring, provided by host UT Martin, will be accessible via the golf schedule page at www.LionSports.net.
