HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University football team hosts the reigning two-time national champion, the reigning Southland Conference champion indoor volleyball team unveils its championship banner, the soccer team opens SLC play, the golf team opens its fall schedule and SLU participates in the university's annual Giving Day during this week in Southeastern Athletics.
 
The Lion football team (1-2) welcomes No. 1 South Dakota State, which has won the last two FCS national championships, for Saturday's 6 p.m. game, sponsored by Burns Estate Planning and Wealth Advisors, in Strawberry Stadium. Should the visiting Jackrabbits maintain their No.1 ranking as expected, they will be the first No. 1 football team to visit Hammond since McNeese in 2003.
 
The SLU indoor volleyball team (5-4) enters the week on a five-match winning streak. Southeastern hosts UL Lafayette for a 6 p.m. contest Tuesday in the University Center. In conjunction with Tuesday's match, the Lady Lions will unveil its Southland championship banner.
 
Southeastern will then head to Lafayette to compete in the Ragin' Cajuns Classic Friday. SLU will face Florida A&M at 11 a.m. and Jacksonville State at 3 p.m.
 
The Southeastern women's soccer team (1-3-1) opens the week on the road with an 11 a.m. match Thursday at Tarleton State. The Lady Lions then return home Sunday to open SLC play, hosting McNeese at 6 p.m. in Strawberry Stadium. Fans will be able to get postgame autographs from their favorite Lady Lions following Sunday's league opener and young SLU fans are encouraged to wear their game jerseys on Youth Sports Night.
 
The Southeastern men's golf team officially opens the 2024-25 season this week. The Lions will be in Jackson, Tennessee Monday and Tuesday to compete in the Grover Page Classic.
 
Southeastern will participate in the university's Giving Day Wednesday. Fans can visit www.southeasterngivingday.org to support the Lions and Lady Lions.
 
On the Air
This week's football and indoor volleyball home action, as well as both soccer contests, will air on ESPN+. Saturday's football game will be heard on the Southeastern Sports Radio Network (Kajun 107.1 FM, The Highway 104.7 FM, The Boss 103.7 FM/1400 AM).
 
Tuesday's volleyball match will be broadcast on 90.9 The Lion. Streaming audio of 90.9 The Lion broadcasts is available online, at www.LionSports.net/ListenLive or www.LionUpRadio.org, or through the following apps - Lions' Gameday, TuneIn and MyTuner Radio.
 
The latest episode of Inside Southeastern Football with Frank Scelfo airs Monday at 7 p.m. from Brady's in downtown Hammond. The show will air on Mondays throughout the season with Scelfo and host Allen Waddell discussing all things Lion Football on the Southeastern Sports Radio Network (Kajun 107.1 FM, The Highway 104.7 FM, The Boss 103.7 FM/1400 AM).
 
Southeastern President Dr. William Wainwright will be the Community Spotlight guest for Monday's show.
