Fremin Named Louisiana Coach of the Year; School-Record Eight Lady Lions Earn All-State Honors

Watson, Blanchard, Krolczyk, Greely, DuBois, Detillier, Johnson and Magee represent SLU among state's best

HAMMOND, La. – The Southland Conference Tournament champion Southeastern Louisiana University softball team secured its largest-ever representation on the 2024 All-Louisiana Collegiate Softball Teams, which were released by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Wednesday.

After leading a SLU squad that earned its first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance and a berth in the championship game in the NCAA Tuscaloosa Regional, Lady Lion head coach Rick Fremin was named the state's Coach of the Year.

Southeastern placed a school-record eight players on the All-Louisiana teams. Senior outfielder Ka'Lyn Watson, senior pitcher Cera Blanchard, senior catcher Bailey Krolczyk and senior designated player Audrey Greely were named to the first team, as SLU, LSU and UL Lafayette shared the state lead with four first-team selections.

Senior pitcher Ellie DuBois and sophomore third baseman Maria Detillier were second team choices for the Lady Lions. A pair of honorable mention choices – senior first baseman Lexi Johnson and freshman shortstop Chloe Magee – rounded out the Southeastern all-state contingent.

Fremin, who just completed his ninth season at the helm of Southeastern Softball, is the first coach in program history to be named the state's Coach of the Year. The Belle Chasse, Louisiana native led SLU to its third consecutive 40-plus win season. The Lady Lions finished 47-15 overall, tying the school record for wins – one of 20 school marks set by Southeastern.

Fremin's Southeastern roster led Division I in stolen bases (175) for the eighth time in the past nine seasons. Under the Belle Chasse, Louisiana native's tutelage, the Lady Lions were ranked in the top 20 in Division I in batting average (.339, 6th), earned run average (2.06, 13th), shutouts (15, 10th), stolen bases per game (2.82, 3rd), triples per game (0.39, 4th), won-loss percentage (.758, 13th), wins (11th) and on-base percentage (.404, 16th).

Watson added to her postseason trophy case after previously being named SLC Hitter of the Year and first team All-Southland Conference. The Cypress, Texas native led the SLC with 31 stolen bases and five sacrifice flies, while setting a single-season school record with 55 runs. Watson his .394 with 74 hits, eight doubles, five triples, six home runs and 39 RBI. Her stolen-base total was good for 12th in Division I.

Blanchard added first team All-Louisiana honors to her first team All-SLC and Southland All-Academic selections. The Metairie, Louisiana native finished 18-3 overall with a 1.77 ERA, four saves and held opponents to a .196 batting average.

Blanchard led the conference in saves and opposing batting average, while ranking second in both wins and earned run average. Blanchard is the first Lady Lion pitcher to be named first team All-Louisiana in school history.

Krolczyk was named All-Louisiana for the third straight season after being named first team All-SLC for the third consecutive time back in May. The Corpus Christi, Texas native ranked among the national leaders with a Southland-high 19 doubles and six triples.

Krolczyk tied her own school record with 29 extra-base hits, hitting .386 with 41 runs, 68 hits, four home runs and 43 RBI. Krolczyk joins former Lady Lions Aeriyl Mass, Karin Smith and Voncia Bookman as the only multi-time first team All-Louisiana honorees in program history.

Greely finished as the school's career leader with 245 games played and as one of three players in program history with 200-plus career hits. Greely and current SLU assistant coach Katie Lacour Godwin are the only four-time All-Louisiana players in school history.

DuBois was named second team All-Louisiana after earning All-Southland and SLC All-Academic accolades. The Shreveport, Louisiana native and the program's career saves leader finished 16-6 overall with a 1.95 ERA, including two wins over No. 21 Clemson at the NCAA Tuscaloosa Regional.

Johnson finished her final season with a .324 batting average, seven home runs, 42 RBI, 59 hits and 10 doubles.
