HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University softball team secured a spot in the championship game of the 2024 North Oaks Health System Southland Conference Championship with a 6-1 victory over UIW Thursday afternoon at North Oak Park.
 
The Lady Lions (44-13) will be making their third straight SLC Tournament championship game appearance and will be looking for their first-ever conference title Friday at noon on ESPN+. Whichever team survives the rest of Thursday's action between UIW (33-16), McNeese and Nicholls will have to beat SLU twice Friday.
 
Maria Detillier and Bailey Krolczyk led Southeastern with two hits apiece in SLU's win. Krolczyk had two RBI, while Detillier, Lexi Johnson and Maddie Watson also drove in runs. SLC Hitter of the Year Ka'Lyn Watson scored her single-season school record 52^nd run in the victory.
 
Ellie DuBois (14-5) allowed just three hits to UIW and did not yield an earned run in five innings of work to earn the win in the circle for Southeastern. Cera Blanchard tossed two scoreless innings of relief to close out the victory.
 
SLU took a 1-0 lead versus UIW starter Larissa Jacquez (11-6) in the bottom of the first inning. Chloe Magee drew a one-out walk, stole second and scored on an RBI single by Krolczyk to give Southeastern the early advantage.
 
The Lady Lions broke the game open in the bottom of the third. Ka'Lyn Watson singled, the scored one out later when Detillier ripped a triple into the right field corner.
 
Krolczyk followed with her second RBI single of the game, then scored when Johnson chased Jacquez from the game with a double off the right field fence. A UIW error allowed Johnson to score and gave SLU a 5-0 lead.
 
DuBois held the Cardinals without a hit until the top of the fourth inning. An RBI single by Maddison Guillen just out of the reach of a diving Ka'Lyn Watson cut the lead to 5-1.
 
Southeastern got the run back in the bottom of the fifth inning. Detillier beat out an infield single to lead off the frame and then scored on an RBI single by Maddie Watson put SLU back up by five.
 
Blanchard made the 6-1 lead stand up, holding the Cardinals hitless over two shutout innings of relief. While Southeastern advanced to Championship Friday for the third straight season, 2024 will mark the first time SLU heads into the final day without a loss.
