Gr. Thrower Terrell Webb will compete in the hammer throw on day 1 of the NCAA East First Round
HAMMOND, La. – Five members of the Southeastern Louisiana University track and field team are in Lexington, Kent. for the start of the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships East First Round, which starts Wednesday and runs through Saturday at the University of Kentucky Outdoor Track & Field Facility.
The 2024 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field National Championships East First Round will be live streamed on ESPN+ with live results also available through the NCAA.
On the competition's first day, Southeastern will send its three men's team's athletes into action with
Terrell Webb,
Gabriel Lim, and
Donroy Brown all competing. Webb kicks things off in the hammer throw competition at 10 a.m. EDT/9 a.m. CDT, looking to improve on his season best throw of 65.21 meters (213'11") from the Keyth Talley Invitational.
Lim will be up next for the Lions on day one, competing in the javelin throw at 1 p.m. EDT/12 p.m. CDT. He'll be looking to improve on his best throw of the season, which came at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays where he unleashed a throw of 64.17 meters (210'6").
Brown will wrap up day one of the competition for the Lions as he competes in the shot put at 6:30 p.m. EDT/5:30 p.m. CDT. His best shot put of the season was also one of his most recent as his toss of 18.14 meters (59'6.25") at the Southland Conference Outdoor Championships earned him a bronze medal and a spot in the NCAA East First Round.
Day two sees the Lady Lions make their run to the NCAA Outdoor Championships as
Onyah Favour races in the 400-meter dash and
Esther Nwanze runs in the 400-meter hurdles.
Up first on the track for the Lady Lions will be Favour in the first round of the 400-meter dash at 7:25 p.m. EDT/6:25 p.m. CDT. Favour earned a spot with her run in the 400-meter dash at the SLC Outdoor Championships where her season-best time of 53.51 seconds got her a fourth-place finish. Should she win her heat or place in the top-24 on time in the first round, she will advance to Saturday's national quarterfinal round, which is set to be run at 6:50 p.m. EDT/5:50 p.m. CDT.
Southeastern's final competitor to step up will be Nwanze, who is coming off of a record-breaking performance at the SLC Outdoor Championships where she broke the SLU school record in the women's 400-meter hurdles with a silver medal-winning time of 57.52 seconds. The first round of the women's 400-meter hurdles is set to run at 8:20 p.m. EDT/7:20 p.m. CDT, and should she win her heat or finish in the top-24 on time, she will advance to the national quarterfinal round, which runs Saturday at 7:25 p.m. EDT/6:25 p.m. CDT.
All five Southeastern athletes will be looking to finish in the top-12 of their respective competition. Should they hit the mark, they will advance to the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field National Championships, which runs June 5-8 in Eugene, Ore. at Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon.
