HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University softball team will close out the road portion of its regular season nonconference schedule Wednesday when it travels to face No. 7 LSU at Tiger Park.
Wednesday's game between the Lady Lions (33-7) and the host Tigers (31-6) will be televised on SEC Network+.
Southeastern heads to Baton Rouge riding a 10-game winning streak. SLU won its 13
th straight Southland Conference series dating back to 2022 last weekend, earning a series sweep of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on the road.
Audrey Greely was named SLC Hitter of the Week Monday after hitting .571 during a 5-0 week for the SLU.
The Lady Lions are hitting .347 as a team, which leads the SLC and ranks eighth in Division I.
Ka'Lyn Watson leads the team with a .410 batting average, followed by
Bailey Krolczyk (.398),
Maria Detillier (.374),
Chloe Magee (.350) and
Colleen Kulivan (.337).
Ka'Lyn Watson also leads SLU with 37 runs scored, 50 hits and 20 stolen bases, as Southeastern leads the nation with 116 steals.
Krolczyk paces the roster with 14 doubles, five triples and 34 RBI, as well as a .717 slugging percentage.
Lexi Johnson's five home runs top the team, followed by Krolczyk and
Ka'Lyn Watson with four home runs apiece.
Southeastern's SLC-best 1.59 team earned run average is good for seventh in Division I and their 12 shutouts are one off the team record set last season.
Cera Blanchard (13-1, 1.02 ERA, 4 saves) is ninth nationally in ERA, while
Ellie DuBois (11-3, 1.40 ERA) ranks right behind her on the conference leaderboard in wins, opposing batting average and ERA.
Mary-Cathryn (MC) Comeaux (3-2, 2.20 ERA, 3 saves),
Chloe Bennett (3-1, 3.00 ERA, 1 save) and
Allison Brunson (3-0, 1.36 ERA, 1 save) round out the Southeastern pitching staff.
Southeastern will be facing an LSU lineup that is hitting .322 as a team. Ali Newland leads the way for the Tigers, hitting at a .379 clip with eight home runs and 34 RBI.
LSU enters Wednesday's contest with a 2.38 team ERA. Sydney Berzon (14-3, 2.09 ERA, 3 saves), Raelin Chaffin (9-2, 2.39 ERA, 1 save) and Kelley Lynch (4-1, 2.74 ERA) are the top arms for the Tigers.
Following the trip to Baton Rouge, Southeastern will return home to host Northwestern State in the Cypress Trophy Series. The SLC three-game set, which will be televised on ESPN+, opens with a 4 p.m. doubleheader Friday and concludes with a noon contest Saturday.
Following Saturday's series finale, Southeastern will honor the 2024 senior class of Johnson, Comeaux, DuBois, Greely, Blanchard, Krolczyk,
Ka'Lyn Watson,
Cam Goodman,
Sadie Hewitt and
Sophia Stoddard. Fans will also have the chance to win prizes by playing Saturday Bingo.
The Southeastern Athletics Ticket Office will be accepting donations to the Lion Food Pantry through Friday this week and are collecting ramen noodles, rice, pasta and granola bars. Anyone who donates will receive a free ticket to either the April 23 softball doubleheader or the baseball contests on April 23 or 24.
