Potential of Winning Gold Watch Draws Top Contenders to Prestigious Event

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University track and field team will send five of its top competitors up north in the pursuit of prized gold watches this week as they take part in the prestigious Penn Relays, presented by Toyota, which runs Thursday through Saturday at Franklin Field on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania.

The entirety of the Penn Relays will be live streamed by FloSports with live results also available through the host institution.

Southeastern's run in the Penn Relays kicks off on Thursday as Terrell Webb makes his tosses in the hammer throw event, which starts at 3:30 p.m. Eastern/2:30 p.m. Central time. Webb is coming off of a fifth-place finish at the LSU Alumni Gold on Saturday. He's looking to improve on his best performance in the discipline of his career, which came last month at the Keyth Talley Invitational in Lafayette when he registered a throw of 65.21 meters (213'11"). Webb remains the only Southland Conference thrower to surpass 60 meters, let alone 65, in the hammer throw this season.

Friday's action sees two Lions perform as Gabriel Lim will take part in the Javelin Throw and Donroy Brown seeks the podium in the shot put. The javelin throw begins at 1:45 p.m. Eastern/1:45 p.m. Central while the shot put starts at 3 p.m. Eastern/2 p.m. Central. Lim looks to continue a phenomenal freshman campaign, which has seen him make strides in both the javelin throw and discus throw disciplines. Entering the Penn Relays, his best performance in the javelin was the mark he set at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays late last month, which landed 64.17 meters (210'6") away from the launch point. Also, in his first year as a Lion, Brown is coming off his best throw of the outdoor season in the shot put as his toss on Saturday at the LSU Alumni Gold went 16.81 meters (55'2"). His best javelin throw, regardless of venue, came at this year's Southland Conference Indoor Championships when he made a toss of 17.28 meters (56'8.5").

The final day of the Penn Relays sees Slavko Stevic make his attempt at high jump gold while Lance Hamilton looks to continue to improve his standing in the triple jump. The high jump competition kicks off at 11:30 a.m. Eastern/10:30 a.m. Central while the triple jump starts at 2:30 p.m. Eastern/1:30 p.m. Central. SLU's record holder of all things high jump, Stevic continues to be one of the best high jumpers in all of Division I, currently sitting in 10th on the NCAA performance list thanks to his jump last month at the Louisiana Classics in Lafayette when he cleared 2.19 meters (7'2.25"). His best career jump, which is also the SLU outdoor record, came at the 2023 Strawberry Relays when he cleared 2.22 meters (7'3.25"). SLU's time at the Penn Relays ends with Hamilton in the triple jump. Hamilton will be competing for the first time since the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, where he had his best triple jump as a Lion, landing 15.45 meters (50'8.25") away. His best career triple jump came at these same Penn Relays in 2022 as a member of Penn State, when he jumped 15.78 meters (51'9.25").

The Penn Relays is the final meet of the season prior to the Southland Conference Outdoor Championships, which runs May 9th – 11th at Wendel D. Ley Track & Holloway Field on the campus of Rice University in Houston, Texas.
