Southeastern Wraps Up Play at SLC Championships

Young SLU roster finishes eighth in final tournament of 2023-24

KERRVILLE, Texas – The Southeastern Louisiana University men's golf team closed out the 2023-24 season Wednesday after the final round of the 2024 Southland Conference Championships at Comanche Trace.

Southeastern finished in eighth place in the team standings. The Lions posted a tournament score of 908 (+44). Augusta (-9) ran away with the SLC Tournament title, finishing 18 strokes better than runner-up Lamar.

For the second straight day, Griffin Dorr was the top performer for the Lions. The Covington, Louisiana native, who was substituted into SLU's five after Monday's first round, backed up Tuesday's even-par round by shooting a two-under par 70 Wednesday. The first-year player out of Central Alabama Community College carded five birdies over the final 18 holes.

Southeastern's lone senior this season was Grayson Glorioso and he was the top finisher in the individual standings for the Lions this week. The Metairie, Louisiana product recorded his third straight round of 75 finishing in a tie for 23rd place.

Colby Sullivan (+12, T30th), Patrick Blaum (+19, 37th) and Landen East (+21, T39th) were the other performers for the Lions. Augusta's Cole Stevens led wire-to-wire, finishing at six-under par on the way to claiming individual medalist honors.

Southeastern went into the SLC Championships with a young roster, as second-year head coach Lawrence Allan started the tournament with a quintet that included one senior, one sophomore and three freshmen.

SLU's young roster improved as the season progressed and the roster gained more experience. The Lions' steady progress culminated with a three-stroke victory at the Koasati Pines Intercollegiate – the final tournament of the regular season. With Glorioso the lone Southeastern player having exhausted his eligibility, Allan's squad expects to benefit from a year of experience in 2024-25 and beyond.
