Box Score 2 HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University softball team extended its win streak to seven games with a doubleheader sweep of Jackson State in nonconference action Tuesday evening at North Oak Park.
Southeastern improved to 30-7 overall with the two victories over JSU (20-11). With the wins, SLU secured its fifth 30-win season under head coach
Rick Fremin.
In the opener,
Maria Detillier and
Ka'Lyn Watson each homered for the Lady Lions in an 8-1 victory.
Ellie DuBois (10-3) allowed one run in five innings of work to earn the win in the circle, while
Allison Brunson and
Chloe Bennett each tossed a scoreless inning of relief.
Southeastern used its team speed to complete the sweep with a 4-2 win in the nightcap, stealing a season-high 10 bases.
Audrey Greely was 3-for-3 with three runs scored, as she and
Colleen Kulivan each had three steals.
Cam Goodman drove in a pair of runs in the victory.
Cera Blanchard (11-1) allowed one hit and did not give up an earned run, striking out five in five innings of work on the way to winning her eighth consecutive decision.
Mary-Cathryn (MC) Comeaux tossed a pair of scoreless innings to earn her second save of the season.
Southeastern will next head to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi for a three-game Southland Conference series. The series opens with a noon doubleheader Friday and concludes with a noon contest Saturday. All three games will be televised on ESPN+.
Game One – Southeastern 8, Jackson State 1
Southeastern took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning against JSU starter Sofia Gonzalez (3-5).
Ka'Lyn Watson led off the inning with her fourth home run of the season, lining a 0-1 pitch over the left field fence to put SLU up, 1-0.
Jackson State tied it up in the top of the third inning. An RBI single by Madison Perry pulled the Tigers even.
Southeastern would retake the lead in the bottom of the third inning. Detillier led off the inning with a double, then scored two outs later when
Lexi Johnson lined a two-out double just inside the left field line to give SLU a 2-1 lead.
In the bottom of the fourth, a heavy rain shower forced a 30-minute rain delay. On the first pitch after the game's restart, Detillier powered a three-run home run over the centerfield fence to give the Lady Lions a 5-1 lead.
Southeastern broke open the game in the bottom of the sixth inning. Kulivan stole home for the inning's first run, then an RBI groundout by
Chloe Magee and a JSU error plated two more runs to give SLU an 8-1 advantage. Bennett retired the Tigers in order in the seventh to close out the win.
Game Two – Southeastern 4, Jackson State 2
Ka'Lyn Watson reached on an error, stole second, moved to third on a Magee bunt single and scored when Detillier hit into a double play to give Southeastern a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.
Back-to-back singles by Greely and Kulivan put a pair of runners on with two outs and they each stole a base to move into scoring position. JSU starter Victoria Salazar (9-5) uncorked a wild pitch to allow Greely to score and extend the advantage to 2-0.
Jackson State took advantage of two errors to score two unearned runs in the top of the third inning off Blanchard to tie the score.
Southeastern retook the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. Greely singled, moved to second on a Tiger error, stole third and scored on an RBI groundout by Goodman to put SLU up, 3-2.
Beija Allen led off the top of the sixth inning with a double, but Comeaux recovered to keep the potential tying run off the board by retiring the next three JSU batters.
SLU added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth. Greely singled with one out and scored later in the frame when Goodman beat out an infield RBI single.
Jackson State managed a single and a walk to bring the potential go-ahead run to the plate with one out in the top of the seventh inning. Comeaux forced Jace Jackson to hit into an inning-ending play to secure the doubleheader sweep.
