19 Medals Remins in Hammond from SLU's Annual Home Meet

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University track and field team kept 19 medals home, including eight golds, from Friday's Strawberry Relays at the Southeastern Track Complex.

Southeastern's early success came on the field and it started with Micah Miller and Gabriel Lim both earning podium spots in the discus. Miller took home the silver with a throw of 45.72 meters (150'0") while Lim finished right behind him as his throw of 45.39 meters (148'11") earned him the bronze.

Lara Zupanc, on the day she was honored as a team senior, earned gold in the pole vault, clearing 3.50 meters (11'5.75") and was the only competitor to register a mark on the day.

On the day he was honored as well, Slavko Stevic did what he's used to doing, dominating the field to win another high jump competition as he cleared 2.18 meters (7'1.75"). Hopes of resetting his own school and facility record were dashed as he missed his three attempts of 2.23 meters (7'3.5").

The morning session ended with Porter Gibson taking home the gold in the shot put as his throw of 14.59 meters (47'10.5") put him at the top of the table when the competition came to an end.

On the track, the Lions started the day by sweeping the podium in the men's 1,500-meter run as Euan Lagan led Noah Kiprotich and Tim Anstett to the line. Lagan took gold with a time of 3:59.53 while Kiprotich took silver by stopping the clock with a time of 4:01.85 and Anstett crossed the line in a time of 4:02.42.

The Lady Lions got their first track medals of the day from the women's 400-meter dash with Onyah Favour winning gold by crossing the line in 54.45 seconds while Esther Nwanze took the silver with a time of 54.78 seconds.

Back on the field, it was another gold for the Lady Lions as Anna Ferrand took the top podium spot in the javelin with a throw of 38.29 meters (125'7").

Back on the track, the Lions added a silver to the tally as Javon-Taye Williams crossed the line in 47.64 seconds for the second-place finish. Laney Wilkes added a bronze for the Lady Lions in the 800-meter run as she stopped the clock in 2:26.89. Darian Chestnut brought home the final individual podium spot for the Lions of the track as he finished the 800-meter run in 1:55.71 for a third-place result.

Back on the field, the final medal of the day for the Lady Lions proved to be a silver in the triple jump as Natalie Ioannou leaped 11.15 meters (36'7") to slot herself in second place on the day.

SLU's last field medals on the day came from the men's hammer throw, led by another senior showing off for the home fans for the final time, Terrell Webb. Webb took home the gold by winning the competition with a toss of 63.02 meters (206'9"), coming just in front of teammate Gerrit Visser. Visser brought home the silver with a throw of 55.93 meters (183'6").

The last medal for the Lions came in the day's final event, the men's 4x400-meter relay. SLU's quartet of Williams, Victory Achakpoekri, Monte Parker, and Josh Anding led all other competitors to the line to bring home the gold by crossing the line in a time of 3:13.82.

Southeastern returns to action next Saturday, returning back to Louisiana's state capital for a trip to the LSU Alumni Gold meet. The LSU Alumni Gold kicks off at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the Bernie Moore Track Stadium. Live results will be available through the host institution.
