HAMMOND, La. – Multi-time junior college All-America selection Feline Poot will continue her academic and athletic endeavors as a member of the Southeastern Louisiana University softball program, SLU head coach
Rick Fremin announced Thursday.
Poot will have one year of eligibility remaining after a tremendous junior college career at Florida Southwestern State College, where she led the Bucs to three consecutive national championships.
Poot gives Southeastern nine additions for the 2025 season. Last November, SLU announced the addition of catcher Nadia Chernich, outfielder Kailey Dixon, pitcher Olivia Henry, pitcher Celia Lamkin, pitcher Macie LaRue, infielder Shelby Morris, catcher Cydnee Schneider and catcher Blair Wash.
"Feline is a phenomenal player that comes from a national championship program," Fremin commented. "We're excited to add a player of her experience and talent to our family."
A career .414 hitter at Florida Southwestern State College, Poot holds the school's career records with 55 home runs, 227 RBI, 188 runs, 44 doubles and 229 hits. A three-time NJCAA All-American, she helped the Bucs to national championships in 2021, 2022 and 2023. In her final game at FSW, she hit three home runs in her team's championship game win over Northwest Florida State College.
Poot's future team will open its Southland Conference schedule at home this weekend. SLU and UIW will play a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday and close out the series with a noon contest Sunday. Saturday's doubleheader will be televised on ESPN+ and live stats for all three games will be available at
www.LionSports.net/sidearmstats/softball.
Saturday will be Youth Sports Day, as young Lion fans (Grade 8 or lower) will receive free admission to the game if they wear their team jersey. Fans will have a chance to win prizes by playing Bingo at the Ballpark Sunday. Saturday's doubleheader, along with the 10 a.m. football spring practice, the 2 p.m. baseball game versus North Dakota State and the 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. beach volleyball matches will be part of Super Lion Saturday.
In conjunction with Super Lion Saturday, Under the Hood with Roger Gill will air outside of Strawberry Stadium from 9-11 a.m. on Tangi 96.5 FM. A Super Lion Saturday show will air from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Kajun 107.1 FM, The Highway 104.7 FM and The Boss 103.7 FM/WFPR 1400 AM.
