Nwanze Wins Hurdle Race with PB Time, Lim Sets New PB in Javelin

AUSTIN, Texas – The Southeastern Louisiana University track and field team were in action in just three events in the team's first day at the 96th Annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, but got personal bests in two of them on Thursday at the Mike A. Myers Track & Soccer Complex at the University of Texas.

Terrell Webb started the day in the hammer throw and made sure his day would not end after just three throws as his third throw went 63.96 meters (209'10") to earn a spot in the finals and get three more throws. His fifth attempt would end up being his best of the day, throwing the hammer 64.84 meters (212'9") to earn a seventh-place finish in the competition.

Up next for the Lions was Esther Nwanze in the timed finals of the 400-meter hurdles. When it came time for her to run in the seventh, and final, heat of the competition, she saw that if she won her heat and matched her sub-1:00 personal best from a week before, she would take home the gold. She did just that, not only stopping the clock in less than 60 seconds, but resetting her personal best by crossing the line in 59.28 seconds to win the heat and take first place in the timed final.

The final athlete in action on the day for Southeastern was Gabriel Lim in the javelin B competition. Things were looking good immediately for Lim as the freshman reset his collegiate best with his first throw of the day as it went 64.17 meters (210'6"), giving him the early lead. However, he would not be able to equal that mark throughout his remaining five throws on the day, falling to second place after the second set of throws and ultimately ended with a fourth-place finish on the day as two other competitors passed him on their sixth and final throws of the day, denying him a podium spot.

Day two begins at 9 a.m. on Friday with men's discus while track competition starts at 9:35 a.m. with the 4x100-meter relays. The 96th Annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays take place at the Mike A. Myers Track & Soccer Complex at the University of Texas and is aired on the Longhorn Network, which streams on ESPN+. Live results are also available through the host institution.
