Gr. thrower Terrell Webb became the first Southland athlete in five years to surpass 65 meters in the hammer throw
FRISCO, Texas – The Southeastern Louisiana University track and field team picked up its second Athlete of the Week award of the outdoor season, this time from the men's side as
Terrell Webb was named the Southland Conference's Male Field Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced on Wednesday.
Webb, a graduate thrower from Cambridge, Ontario, Canada, set two personal bests on Saturday as Southeastern competed at the Keyth Talley Invitational, hosted by LSU. He continued to cement his spot as the best hammer thrower in the Southland, surpassing yet another milestone as he became the first SLC athlete to throw farther than 65 meters in the discipline in five years. His best throw in Saturday's hammer competition went 65.21 meters (213'11"), earning him a silver medal on the day. That throw also gave him the third-longest in the South-Central Region and 25
th-longest in all of Division I for the year. He remains the only Southland athlete to surpass 60 meters in the hammer throw in 2024.
He followed that up with a new personal best in the discus throw as well as his longest toss in that competition went 47.98 meters (157'5"), earning a 10
th-place finish on the day while improving on his first-ever throws in the discipline from the previous week. That throw moved him up to sixth in the conference leaderboard and 22
nd in the South-Central Region.
This is Webb's second-career outdoor athlete of the week honors. Webb and the rest of the Lions head to Austin, Texas to take part in the 96
th Annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays. SLU's first day of competition in the Texas Relays is Thursday and runs through Saturday at the Mike A. Myers Track & Soccer Stadium. The 96
th Annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays will be televised on the Longhorn Network with live results also available.
