KERRVILLE, Texas – Five Southeastern Louisiana University men's golfers shot or matched their low round of the tournament in the final round of The Big Texan Tuesday at the Riverhill Country Club.
Southeastern finished the tournament with a team score of three-under par over the final 18 holes. SLU second-year head coach
Lawrence Allan saw positive aspects his team can build on moving forward.
"We played quite well for long stretches today," Allan commented. "We weren't pleased with our play yesterday, but the effort was much better in the final round. We have a very young team with three freshmen and a sophomore playing this week, but the experience is going to help them mature quickly into consistent performers. This course is very close to the site of the SLC Championships, so we're hopeful playing in similar conditions this week will help us next month."
The Lions' lone senior continues to set the example for his young teammates.
Grayson Glorioso carded a four-under par 68 over the final 18 holes, finishing alone in fourth place in the final individual standings at five-under par for the tournament.
"Grayson had another great tournament and his level of play continues to trend upward," Allan said. "We expect him to be a strong contender for Southland Conference Player of the Year."
Freshman
Ethan Dial steadily improved throughout the tournament, lowering his score each round and capping the tournament with a two-under par 70 Tuesday. The Shreveport, Louisiana native finished tied for 16
th at two-over par for the week.
Sophomore
Patrick Blaum, who competed as an individual this week, finished in a tie for 39
th place (+8). Junior
Griffin Dorr shot even par over the final 18 holes and ended the tournament in a tie for 45
th place (+9). Freshmen
Colby Sullivan (+17, T72nd) and
Landen East (+21, 80
th) rounded out the Lion lineup.
Southeastern's three-round score of 886 (+22) left the Lions in 11
th place in the final team standings. Tournament host and SLU's future Southland Conference rival UTRGV was 10-under par to win the team title, led by individual medalist Javier Neira (-9).
Southeastern will return to the course April 8-9 at the Koasati Pines Intercollegiate in Kinder, Louisiana. The tournament will be SLU's final tune-up for the SLC Championships April 22-24 in Kerrville, Texas.
