HAMMOND, La. – Aniya Harris is the latest student-athlete to make the decision to continue her academic and athletic endeavors as a member of the Southeastern Louisiana University softball program, SLU head coach
Rick Fremin announced Friday.
Harris is currently a senior catcher/designated player at Chalmette High School. She'll join the Lady Lions for the 2025 campaign.
"Aniya will provide a power bat for our roster," Fremin commented. "She's also outstanding academically and a phenomenal teammate. We're excited to add Aniya to our program."
Harris earned All-State honors as a junior at CHS, while also throwing the shot put for the school's track and field team. Her prowess in athletics and her excellence in the classroom led to her being named the St. Bernard Parish Student of the Year.
Harris gives Southeastern 10 additions for the 2025 season. She joins catcher Nadia Chernich, outfielder Kailey Dixon, pitcher Olivia Henry, pitcher Celia Lamkin, pitcher Macie LaRue, infielder Shelby Morris, infielder Feline Poot, catcher Cydnee Schneider and catcher Blair Wash.
The current SLU team (22-6, 5-1 SLC) will host HCU for a three-game Southland Conference series at North Oak Park. The series opens with a 4 p.m. doubleheader Friday and continues Saturday at noon. All three games of the HCU series will be televised on ESPN+.
This weekend is Military Appreciation Weekend, as all military personnel with a valid ID will receive free admission. Fans will have a chance to win prizes Saturday by playing Bingo at the Ballpark.
