HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University Beach Volleyball team faces a crucial weekend as the Lady Lions head to New Orleans, Louisiana for six matches in the Southland Conference Mid-Season Invitational.
Southeastern (6-7, 2-1 SLC) opened the weekend seeking to end a four-match losing streak and gain a good standing in conference. SLU closed out last weekend with its first conference loss of the season to Boise State 5-0 before falling 3-2 to Stephen F. Austin at the Sugar Beach Bash in Youngsville, Louisiana. The Lady Lions returned to the sand in a 3-2 loss to Southern Miss after falling 4-1 to South Carolina.
SLU will rematch against New Orleans (7-8, 0-2 SLC) Friday morning at 10:30 a.m. to kick off the three-day conference showcase before competing against HCU (2-16, 1-0 SLC) at 4 p.m. to end the day. New Orleans is seeking to regroup after dropping its last two matchups in the Sugar Beach Bash last weekend to Tampa and UAB on the road. HCU is looking to overcome a five-match losing streak after falling short against No. 14 Washington and Texas earlier this week.
The Lady Lions will return to the sand Saturday morning at 9:15 a.m. to face San Jose State (6-7, 0-1 SLC) before matching up against McNeese (2-13, 1-0 SLC) at 2:30 p.m. to end day two. San Jose State posted a 3-2 record last weekend in its Inaugural San Jose Invitational for the first time in program history. McNeese is looking to compound its winning streak after defeating conference foe Nicholls 4-1 to end the weekend.
Southeastern will cap the weekend against No. 20 Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (13-4, 1-0 SLC) Sunday afternoon at 1:15 p.m. before facing conference rival Nicholls at 5:15 p.m. The Islanders gained their national-ranking with a two-game winning streak over Utah and San Jose State. Nicholls (6-12, 0-1 SLC) is seeking to combat a four-match losing streak after falling to McNeese and ULM last weekend in the ULM Bayou Bash.
SLU is focused on regrouping to gain some momentum throughout the weekend to secure quality wins over conference opponents. The Southland Mid-Season Invitational will kick off Friday morning at 8 a.m. with McNeese competing against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. All matches at the Southland Conference Mid-Season Invitational will be played at Privateer Beach in New Orleans, La.
Following Sunday's matches, the Lady Lions will travel to Northridge, California to compete in the CSUN Tri Match April 3 at 2 p.m. Southeastern will move on to close out the weekend against Pepperdine Friday, April 5 at 11 a.m. in Malibu, California.
