Lady Lions Drop Pair of Matches to Close Out Sugar Beach Bash

Southeastern suffers two tough losses to close out Sugar Beach Bash.

YOUNGSVILLE, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University beach volleyball team fell short in two matches Friday afternoon at the Sugar Beach Bash hosted in Youngsville, Louisiana to begin the weekend.
 
Southeastern (6-7, 2-1 SLC) returned to the sand for day two with a tough 4-1 loss to South Carolina (10-6). The Lady Lions have suffered two losses against power five opponents this season to be battle tested for conference matches. Juniors Andrea Da Silva and Rachel Hartmann finished with a 23-21 and 21-12 two set advantage over the Gamecocks to secure a win for SLU. South Carolina gained all other matches with a two-set edge.
 
The Lady Lions fell 3-2 to Southern Miss (6-10, 2-0 SBC) to end the two-day tournament in Youngsville, Louisiana. Da Silva and Hartmann gained another win alongside sophomore Mia McKinney and freshman Mia Sauers who battled to obtain a three-set advantage over the Golden Eagles.

SLU will return to the sand March 22-24 to compete in the Southland Conference Mid-Year Invitational in New Orleans, Louisiana. Southeastern will start the weekend with a rematch against the New Orleans Privateers Friday morning at 10:30 a.m. before facing HCU at 4 p.m. to cap off the day. The Lady Lions will move to take on San Jose State University at 9:15 a.m. Saturday morning before returning at 2:30 p.m. against McNeese to end day two. Southeastern will face the defending Southland Conference champion Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Sunday at 1:15 p.m. before closing out the tournament against Nicholls at 5:15 p.m. All matches will be played at Privateer Beach.
