HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University Beach Volleyball team is set to host nine teams this weekend in Youngsville, Louisiana for its second consecutive Sugar Beach Bash.
The Lady Lions (6-3, 2-0 SLC) open the weekend looking to compound its six-game winning streak after hosting the program's first Southeastern Invitational. SLU ended last weekend 3-0 to remain undefeated against Central Arkansas, Texas A&M-Kingsville and Spring Hill. Southeastern endured a two-hour weather delay before gaining its first win of the weekend over Central Arkansas with a 4-1 advantage. The Lady Lions returned to the sand to close out the tournament with a 3-2 edge over Texas-A&M-Kingsville before sweeping Spring Hill with a 5-0 victory.
SLU will face Boise State (11-6) Friday morning at 11 a.m. to begin the day before competing against Stephen F. Austin (5-7) later in evening at 5 p.m. to close out day one. The Broncos are seeking to reclaim a position in the winning category after dropping to No. 12 Hawaii on the road. Stephen F. Austin is looking to overcome its four-game losing streak after falling short in the Horned Frog Invitational.
Southeastern will return to the sand Saturday afternoon at 12 p.m. against South Carolina (7-5) before closing out the weekend against Southern Miss (4-8) at 4 p.m. The South Carolina Gamecocks are returning from a five-set sweep over Eastern Kentucky last weekend to continue its three-game winning streak. Southern Miss is looking to bounce back from a four-game losing streak in Long Beach Invitational last weekend.
The Lady Lions are focused on remaining consistent throughout the weekend to extend its winning streak over non-conference opponents. Friday's action will kick off at 9 a.m. with Tulane competing against USC while UAB will face Tampa the other courts. Saturday's first match of the day will begin at 8 a.m. as Boise State takes on USC and Tampa will match up against conference foe HCU. All matches at the Sugar Beach Bash will be played at the Youngsville Sports Complex Sugar Beach Facility.
Concluding Saturday's matches, SLU will travel to New Orleans, Louisiana to compete in the Southland Conference Mid-Year Invitational March 22-24. Southeastern will face conference rival New Orleans March 22 at 10:30 a.m. before returning to the sand at 4 p.m. to compete against HCU. To begin day two the Lady Lions will take on San Jose State University at 9:15 before facing McNeese at 2:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon. SLU will close out the weekend Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. against the reigning conference champion Texas A&M-Corpus Christi before moving on to a rematch against Nicholls at 5:15 p.m.
