HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's basketball looks to repeat as Southland Conference Tournament champions, while the baseball, softball, track, beach volleyball and tennis teams will also be in action during this week in Southeastern Athletics.
The SLU women's basketball team (18-11) is the No. 3 seed in the Southland Conference Tournament, which runs Monday through Thursday at the Legacy Center in Lake Charles, Louisiana. The Lady Lions received a bye into the quarterfinals and will face the winner of Monday's first round game between Nicholls and New Orleans Tuesday at 1:30 p.m.
The winner of Tuesday's contest will advance to face No. 2 seed Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the semifinals Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday's semifinal winners will meet in Thursday's championship game set for 4 p.m. The winner of the tournament receives the league's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament and will find out its postseason fate on the NCAA Selection Show Sunday at 7 p.m. on ESPN.
The Southeastern baseball team (11-6) continues its 10-game home stand this week. The Lions welcome Tulane to Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field Tuesday for a 6 p.m. contest. Every home Tuesday at the Pat is a $2 Tuesday, as fans receive $2 general admission and can purchase $2 hot dogs at the concession stand. Tuesday is also Country Night at the Pat and kids can stand next to their favorite Lion during the national anthem.
SLU then welcomes St. Louis to town for a three-game series. The series opens Friday at 6 p.m., continues Saturday at 2 p.m. and concludes Sunday at 1 p.m. Every Saturday at the Pat and North Oak Park this season will give fans the opportunity to win prizes for Bingo at the Ballpark. Every SLU baseball home Sunday will be dedicated to military appreciation, as all active military will receive free admission with a valid military ID.
This Sunday is also St. Patrick's Day, so fans are encouraged to wear their best SLU green to the Pat as the Lions take on the Billikens.
The Lady Lion softball team (18-6, 2-1 SLC) will open the road portion of its Southland Conference schedule this week. Southeastern will travel to Texas A&M-Commerce for a three-game league series. The series opens with a 5 p.m. doubleheader Friday and concludes Saturday at noon.
The Southeastern track and field teams will open the outdoor season this week. SLU will be in Ruston, Louisiana Friday to compete in the Jim Mize Invitational.
The SLU beach volleyball team (6-3, 2-0 SLC) carries a six-match win streak into this week's Sugar Beach Bash in Youngsville, Louisiana. Southeastern will face league foe Boise State at 11 a.m. and Stephen F. Austin at 5 p.m. Friday. Saturday will see the Beach Lions take on South Carolina at noon and Southern Miss at 4 p.m.
The Lion tennis team (6-7, 0-2 SLC) has one match on tap this week. SLU will host Missouri State Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.
On the Air
The women's basketball team's first two SLC Tournament games, as well as all of the baseball and softball action will be televised on ESPN+. This week's women's basketball and baseball contests will air on 90.9 The Lion. The Southland Conference women's basketball championship game will be televised on ESPNU.
