Favour, Nwanze, Kauer, Jackson Combine to Break Eight-Year-Old Mark

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southeastern Louisiana University track and field team reset an eight-year-old school record as Onyah Favour, Esther Nwanze, Miriam Kauer, and Indya Jackson combined to break the 4x400-meter relay mark Friday at the Bulldog Invitational, hosted by Samford University, at the Birmingham CrossPlex.

Immaculate Danial got the day started by qualifying for the 60-meter dash final by winning her preliminary heat with a time of 7.60. In the final, she would improve her time and earn a bronze medal with a time of 7.59.

The Lady Lions put the field on notice that they would be a force in the 400-meter events as SLU claimed four of the top-eight spots in the 400-meter dash with Nwanze taking the silver with a time of 55.64, Jackson coming in fourth in 55.91, Favour in sixth in 57.17, and Kauer in eighth in 57.50.

Ava Pitarro rounded out the individual medals for the women's track squad, finishing the 5,000-meter run in 18:58.87, earning a silver for her performance.

The final run of the day was the historic moment as Favour, Nwanze, Kauer, and Jackson combined to finish the women's 4x400-meter relay in a time of 3:45.21, besting the old school mark of 3:45.82 which was set during the 2016 Southland Conference Indoor Championships.

Victory Achakpoekri got the first medal for the men's track team by winning bronze in the men's 400-meter dash, crossing the line in a time of 48.39. Tim Anstett added a silver to that total in the 800-meter run, finishing his heat in 1:53.73. The men's 4x400-meter team of Achakpoekri, Josh Anding, Javon-Taye Williams, and Josiah Whitaker ended the day with the third best time of 3:17.45, taking home the bronze medal.

In the field, Jordyn Taylor brought home a silver for the women in the long jump with her best leap going 5.49 meters (18'0.25"). On the men's side, Slavko Stevic continued his run of domination, being the only competitor on the day to clear two meters, with the final height he got over being 2.14 meters (7'0.25"). The final medal Southeastern brought home on the day went to Terrell Webb as he launched a personal best toss of 20.52 meters (67'4") to win a bronze medal in the weight throw.

The Lions return to action next Friday, making the hour-drive down I-12 to Baton Rouge for the LSU Twilight meet, the final tune-up before the Southland Conference Indoor Championships. The first events of the day at the LSU Twilight start at 10 a.m. in the Carl Maddox Fieldhouse.
