HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's tennis team will host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Thursday at noon in the Southland Conference opener for both teams at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.
SLU (5-4) enters Thursday's match, which was originally scheduled for Saturday and moved up due to expected inclement weather, on a four-match win streak. The Islanders (9-1) have only a 4-1 loss to UTSA marring an otherwise perfect spring.
Bente Bierma (5-4) leads Southeastern in singles victories, while
Kate Oborina (4-0) has yet to be defeated in 2024.
Leana Gomez (4-3) and
Panatchakorn Suanarsa (4-4) have also been solid in singles action, while
Alba Perez (3-5) is on a three-match win streak that earned her Southland Conference Player of the Week honors Tuesday.
Suanarsa has teamed with
Taisia Bolsova for a team-best 5-3 doubles mark. The new team of Bierma and Perez is 2-0 since joining forces.
Emma Aucagne (8-2) and Valeria Cherfus (8-1) share the team lead in singles victories for the visiting Islanders, while Naomi Moi McKenzie and Ana Veroux boast matching 6-0 singles marks. Aucagne and Moi McKenzie are 5-3 in doubles play on the year, playing predominantly on the No. 1 court.
Thursday's match is the first of two SLC home matches in a row for SLU. Southeastern welcomes UIW to town Monday for a 10 a.m. league contest at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.
