HAMMOND, La. – After a perfect week of results, Southeastern Louisiana University senior
Alba Perez was named the Jersey Mike's Southland Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week in an announcement from the league office Tuesday.
Perez, a native of Valencia, Spain, is the first SLU player to receive SLC weekly honors this spring and earns her first career SLC Player of the Week notice as a Lion.
"Alba's worked so hard, so our entire team is very happy to see her receive this honor," Southeastern head coach
Jason Hayes said. "It's never easy playing in the top spot in singles, so her 6-0 week is a testament to her commitment to our program."
Perez was 3-0 on the No. 1 singles court and was instrumental in helping Southeastern (5-4) extend its win streak to four matches. In doubles play, she teamed with
Bogi Csordas for a win in SLU's 4-3 win over Loyola Tuesday. She teamed with
Bente Bierma for doubles victories in wins over Southern Thursday and Dillard Sunday.
Southeastern will open Southland Conference play Thursday, hosting Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 2 p.m. at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.
